Fly Rods Start With the Best Bamboo
The journey of every Justin Charles fly rod begins with Tonkin cane. We cull the poles that meet our unwavering standards of wall thickness, weight, node spacing and color. If the bamboo isn't perfect, it isn't selected for a Justin Charles fly rod.
Resin-Impregnated to Last for Generations
By using our proprietary resin formula, our rods are 100% waterproof and resistant to damage from intense heat and bitter cold. Unlike varnish, our resin permanently bonds to the bamboo fibers, filling voids and adding strength. Through a series of resin bath immersions at varying temperatures, carried out for weeks, the Justin Charles rod blanks achieve total saturation for unmatched protection without adding weight.
Hardware Engineered for Performance
Our engraved solid nickel silver cap and ring reel seat hardware is affixed to a cocobola insert - a species selected for its beauty and durability. We select our nickel silver ferrules for not only their strength and fit, but also for their form and beauty. The high carbon steel wire snake guides are handcrafted to sit straight & true. Tip-top guides are black nickel finish for superior corrosion, abrasion and groove-resistance. We use handcrafted agate stripping guides with genuine agate rings set in nickel silver bands which are hand-soldered to quality frames with a black nickel finish.
